How do I find out which part of my field is costing me money?

Uneven crop growth seen from a field gate, no people

How do I find out which part of my field is costing me money?

Every grower knows the feeling. The field looks even from the gate, yet one corner always lags, one headland always floods, and the margin at the end of the season never quite matches the plan.

The question is not whether the variation exists. It is whether you can see it, record it and act on it.

Start with the field, not the farm

A farm average hides almost everything. A single figure for a whole farm tells you how the season went, not where it went wrong. The useful unit is the field, and inside the field, the zone.

Fertivero is building SCALE, the farmer's app, to make that practical. It is designed to put every field on one map and run the season from the Cultiva record: one record for every field, built from satellite scans, drone scans, soil samples taken by our agronomists, and climate data.

What a management zone is

A management zone is a part of a field that behaves differently from the rest: heavier soil, a drier slope, a patch where water sits. Treating it separately can mean different input decisions for different ground. The Health tool in SCALE is designed to show soil health, water level, fertility level, crop health and pest damage, field by field, so the weaker ground stands out.

Satellite scans show how the crop is doing across the field. They are a prompt to go and look, not a verdict. In FieldWise AI, a drone scan is designed to confirm the exact spot before anything is applied. A pale patch might still be nutrition, water, compaction or something else, and only a walk and a soil sample will tell you which.

Put a cost on every hectare

The crop planner in SCALE is designed to show which crops will give a high yield on each field and which a mid-size yield. Each plan is designed to show what it will cost over the season and what it should earn after harvest, priced from HARVEST market data. Yield alone can flatter a field that cost too much to grow. The grower's margin is the score.

Once cost and likely earnings sit next to each field, the question "which part of my field is costing me money?" becomes something you can read off a screen, rather than something you suspect.

Keep the history

The Cultiva record is designed to follow each field through the whole year: soil, history and the plan before sowing; growth, pests, disease and weather in season; yield and quality at harvest; and what the field needs next after harvest. It is kept for the next season, so one bad year becomes a pattern you can understand, or a one-off you can stop worrying about.

Who sees it

Your records are yours. The field data belongs to the farmer. We use it to advise that farmer, and we never sell it. Who else sees it is your choice.

What you can do today

None of this needs to wait for software. Walk the lowest-performing area, note its position and take a soil sample. Write to info@fertivero.com if you want to talk to us.
